Join us and practice your German with native German speakers and sing a mixture of classical, folk, and popular music in the German language under the musical direction of our conductor Chris Knoedler. This is the perfect opportunity for language students and music majors to hear and speak German and enjoy an evening of good fellowship.
To become a part of the Washington Sängerbund as a singer just attend our rehearsals on Mondays. The conductor will help you select the proper voice section. After attending four consecutive rehearsals a new singer will be officially voted in and welcomed with the song “Sei gegrüßt in unser’m trauten Kreise”
Non-singing members and guests may come by the clubhouse any time when we are rehearsing. We welcome non-singing members as they provide frequently needed assistance at our various functions. We are always grateful for such helping hands.
The Washington Sängerbund is a non-profit chorus recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization, run by a volunteer Board of Directors that employs the conductor, sets policy, and manages administrative tasks. The Washington Sängerbund performs three to four concerts each season, often with contracted soloists and instrumentalists, or in collaboration with other orchestras or choruses. In addition, the Washington Sängerbund has a cultural/educational component which includes a Fasching Ball (Mardi Gras) and participation in local Oktoberfests.
